La teoría del habitus y la crítica realista al conflacionismo central

Abstract

This article contains an analysis of Pierre Bourdieu´s theory of habitus from the point of view of Margaret Archer´s criticism of central conflation. Ir first compares Arches´s criticism of downward an upward conflation with Bourdieu´s criticism of objetivism and subjectivism in sociological theory. It argues that while the criticisms from both sociologists are similar in several respects, there are substantive differences in relation to humanist foundation that underpins Archer´s critique. Finally, it explores Archer´s criticism of central conflation by comparing it with the way in wich Bourdieu aims to solve the dichotomy between subjet and structure. Here it is argued that the French sociologist does not advance a satisfactory explanation of the phenomenon of social tranformation and that Archer´s criticism allows the identification of those aspects that are in need of revision to develop a theory of social change.

El presente artículo contiene un análisis de la teoría del habitus de Pierre Bourdieu desde la crítica que Margaret Archer ha formulado al conflacionismo central. Se compara la crítica de Archer al conflacionismo descendente y al conflacionismo ascendente con la de Bourdieu y al objetivismo y al subjetivismo, respectivamente. Se sostiene que si bien la crítica de ambos sociólogos es coincidente en varios aspectos, existen diferencias de fondo en relación con el fundamento humanista que subyace a la crítica de Archer. Finalmente, se explora la crítica de Archer al conflacionismo central, comparándola con la forma en que Bourdieu pretende resolver el dualismo entre sujeto y estructura. Al respecto se sostiene que en la teoría del habitus no hay una explicación satisfactoria del fenómeno de la transformación social y que la crítica de Archer permite identificar cuáles serían los aspectos a revisar en dicha teoría para avanzar hacia una teoría del cambio social
